Learn how FlowSavvy handles tasks missing their deadlines and how to change this behavior

Updated over 4 months ago

When a task can't be scheduled before its deadline, FlowSavvy either schedules it after its deadline or "ignores" it and doesn't schedule it at all. This article talks about how each of these options work, and how to change this behavior for each task.

What is an "ignored" task?

An "ignored" task is a task that is not being scheduled because it could not be scheduled before its deadline. By default, repeating tasks are ignored when they can't be scheduled before their deadlines, and non-repeating tasks are not ignored, meaning they just get scheduled after their deadlines. You can change this behavior for each task after the task has been created.

When a task is ignored, it will show as "ignored" in the header on the day of its due date on the schedule view. You can click on it to edit it or allow it to be scheduled past its deadline, or you can simply ignore it. When an ignored task's deadline passes, the ignored task will be deleted.

The purpose of this feature is to help reduce the clutter caused by missed tasks, especially when they are lower-priority tasks or habit-like tasks that you wish would just disappear. For example, if you have a task called "Answer emails" that repeats every day, but you block off the next 7 days for a vacation, the missed occurrences are automatically ignored and then deleted once their deadline passes. This saves you from having to manually delete or complete every missed occurrence.

How can I allow an ignored task to be scheduled past its deadline?

If you'd like a task to be scheduled even if it can't be scheduled before its deadline, or you want the occurrences of a repeating task to "stack up" when you miss them, there are 2 ways to accomplish this:

  1. Click the task in the header on the day of its due date, then click "Turn auto-ignore off".

    - OR -

  2. Open the task, click the triple dot in the bottom right corner, then turn "Auto-ignore" off.

When "auto-ignore" is turned off and a task is scheduled after its deadline, the task will be colored red, and a red triangle will appear in the header. You can click the red triangle in the header to see and manage all your tasks missing their deadlines.

How to ignore a task that's missing its deadline

If you'd like a task to be automatically ignored and not scheduled if it couldn't be scheduled before its deadline, there are 2 ways to accomplish this:

  1. Open the task, click the triple dot in the bottom right corner, then turn "Auto-ignore" on.

    - OR -

  2. Click the red triangle at the top of the screen to view all the tasks that are missing their deadlines. Select "resolve" next to the task, then click "Turn auto-ignore on".
