Tasks are not being scheduled, but there is plenty of space

Find out why your tasks aren't being scheduled before their due date even though there is plenty of time.

Why aren't my Auto-scheduled tasks being scheduled when there is plenty of time?

When an "Auto-scheduled" task isn't being scheduled before its due date (aka red tasks) when there is plenty of free time, there is usually a good reason for it. Here are a few of the most common cases to check:

  1. "Busy" all-day events are blocking days. This is indicated by diagonal stripes the same color as the busy, all-day event. If you have any all-day events on the days where you want tasks to be scheduled, make sure "Busy" is toggled off in the event details page.

  2. Scheduling hours are configured incorrectly. Double check Settings > Scheduling hours, and if those look good, make sure you're adding tasks to the right scheduling hours on the task details page.

  3. The task time range is configured incorrectly. Double check the due date and when the task can be started on the task details page.

  4. Super long buffer/travel times on surrounding events. Check to make sure you haven't accidentally added a lot of buffer/travel time to surrounding events.

  5. The task's due date is after the Auto-scheduling cutoff. Auto-scheduled tasks due after the Auto-scheduling cutoff won't be scheduled yet. Learn more about the Auto-scheduling cutoff here.

What if none of those👆fixed it?

If you've checked all the above and still can't figure out why overdue tasks aren't being scheduled before their due date when there is open space, shoot us a message and we'll be happy to hop on a call to look at your settings with you!

My tasks aren't missing their deadlines, but why isn't FlowSavvy filling my day?

If none of the above reasons are blocking tasks from being scheduled and there is roughly the same amount of work each day, this is due to FlowSavvy's workload balancing. When "Workload distribution" in Settings > General is set to "Balanced", FlowSavvy tries to schedule roughly the same amount of work every day to avoid overly busy or light days. If you'd prefer that tasks are scheduled as soon as possible, try changing your workload distribution to "Front-load".

Note that FlowSavvy front-loads tasks when they are close to missing their deadline or are overdue. So, if your task is orange or red and there is free space in your calendar before the deadline, balancing is likely not the issue. Please double check the other settings mentioned in this article and reach out at support@flowsavvy.app if there is still an issue!
