Learn what the Smart-scheduling cutoff is, how to adjust it, and how it affects smart-scheduled tasks

What is the Smart-Scheduling Cutoff?

The Smart-scheduling cutoff is the number of weeks from today that FlowSavvy will schedule all your "smart-scheduled" tasks. Any tasks due after the Smart-scheduling cutoff will not be included in your schedule. As soon as their due dates fall within the smart-scheduling range, they'll be automatically scheduled the next time your schedule is recalculated. You can still find unscheduled tasks on the To-do list.

For example, if your Smart-scheduling cutoff is 2 weeks, FlowSavvy will schedule all your "smart-scheduled" tasks that are due less than 2 weeks from today. Any smart-scheduled tasks due more than 2 weeks in the future will not be included in the scheduling algorithm.

๐Ÿ’ก Tip: If you have a huge project that is due far in the future, but you want to work on it regularly, you can create a smaller task that repeats every week/month/etc.

This will ensure small parts of the task are scheduled periodically instead of the task not getting scheduled at all because of the Smart-scheduling cutoff.

To make it easy to see when the Smart-scheduling cutoff is, gray stripes will show up in the schedule on all days that are past the Smart-scheduling cutoff. Smart-scheduled tasks that are due on these striped days (any day after the Smart-scheduling cutoff) will not be scheduled.

Why is there a Smart-Scheduling Cutoff?

The Smart-scheduling cutoff keeps FlowSavvy's scheduling algorithm as fast as possible. The more weeks FlowSavvy has to optimize, the longer it will take, and finding time for each of your repeating tasks until the end of time just isn't feasible.

On a similar note, this scheduling algorithm takes a lot of processing power on our end, which is why the free plan is limited to a Smart-scheduling cutoff of 2 weeks, which should be more than enough for most people.

How to Adjust the Smart-Scheduling Cutoff

You can adjust the Smart-scheduling cutoff in Settings > General. Users on the free plan can set their scheduling cutoff up to 2 weeks, and users on the Pro plan can set their Smart-scheduling cutoff up to 8 weeks.
